and another season starts ...

you can hardly see the schoolhouse!

yup 60 onions in (240 to go)
two short rows of carrots and radishes ..
garlic all poked back to bed (some of it always comes to the surface through the freeze up and melting)

new bed (was a flower bed that got entirely overgrown) turned over ready for tilling to be the melon/cuke or zucchini bed

more wood split

a good day's work

and that doesn't include the long pleasure walk we took either!

Finally

made it to Vareharri proper for an overnighter .. snow covers everything here ...

and you'll be shocked to know we used the time to walk and get wood

and curl up by the fire and read a book

lovely to be in a peaceful head space even for a minute

10,000 steps

That's supposed to be the goal for each of us to walk each day - to be healthy and fit - I don't know who came up with that target but Big T embraced it and is taking the dogs and I along with him - it's actually kind of fun to have a goal other than tiring the dogs out ;)

We try around here to do that - some days are easier than others - no doubt at all the days at the farm are the easiest to make our quota - but some days at work are a breeze too

some of the places we walk make adding footsteps to our total a real pleasure - we are lucky to be so close to a lake- this picture was snapped on today's walk. Too bad it isn't sunny but isn't it lovely?

how many steps a day do you take??

well the garlic's not planted

but we went for a long walk on a new beach with the puppy and Sally ... did you even know we have a puppy? We do - Sampson is ours now - pretty offically .. he seems to be fitting in pretty well although he is an assertive boy ...

and I loved on animals all weekend - and rested - good heavens I was TIRED this week ... emotional stress does that I guess.
we have had foster animals come in and find homes too (YAY) and have a couple more coming this week - 2 unrelated kittens who need crate rest ... maybe one will be a forever friend for little Rumour (who isn't so little anymore - she's being spayed tomorrow). That's Delilah the Siamese gracing the start of the blog - she's gotten a bite bad enough to break a hind leg. She'll require ortho surgery and a long rest to get back on four paws . She's gonna be one expensive kitty!

maybe the garlic will get planted next weekend ...

more walking

a couple of snaps from our most recent walk - on camera phone so they aren't great but you can see the pond overflow a bit and the broken tree so typical of what we found!

It's a planning time of year - looking for wood, deciding on locations for hives, cabins, barns etc..watching the pond overflow it's banks and hearing and seeing flocks of birds. There was some substantive wind damage last week (apparently the winds got up to 120 kilometres an hour just south of us. Interesting to see that we know our woods well enough to easily be able to see where trees have come down from the wind.
