a lovely foggy walk and wooding ...

A lovely time at the farm this afternoon - finding trees to bring down then hiking out to the ridge to check out the fog (and the teeny tiny cabin!)

Dogs ran and ran then ran a little more.

Thea's little feet got cold so she spent a little time sitting up on the ATV seat warming up.

The fog was so neat!

Can you see Sampson?

Here he is!

The ridge. The lake was completely covered in fog.

and so fall begins ...

as expected

with wooding , and hay collecting - got a small bale's worth of nice hay off the left overs from the big equipment ... the bunnies will be thrilled :)

walking (everybody except Thea - who is lame at the moment)

working on the garlic harvest - sorting what to use and what to plant ... trimming a little ..

Tomorrow's goals?

pulling all the potatoes, peppers, and squash

I fully expect a first frost this week ...

Finally

made it to Vareharri proper for an overnighter .. snow covers everything here ...

and you'll be shocked to know we used the time to walk and get wood

and curl up by the fire and read a book

lovely to be in a peaceful head space even for a minute

if you went down to the woods today

you would have gotten quite the shock!

Yup we wooded today .. and it was mucky enough there was no way I was ripping up fields with the truck - so off on the atv we barrelled - with the big dawgs running alongside (if you ever need to tire out a 7 month old golden retriever out - just come borrow the atv on the farm)

We found a dead tree Big T has been watching for quite some time - could get right to it with the the atv and the trailer only took a small piece of it out

He sawed it (using our still running brilliantly Stihl saw) up into chunks, I humped it to the trailer and then we rode out ... FUN and FRUITFUL

FABULOUS to get something done on the first day of a new year

it's going to be mighty hard to go back to work on Monday ....

wooding, weeding, and force feeding ...

Wooding, weeding and force feeding were the story of this weekend (well and yelling at dogs to GET OUT of the tomatoes)

Big T felled a BIG tree we can work on over the next couple of weekends. He also split a bunch of the pine from dad's place.

I've pulled up a ZILLION BIG UGLY weeds from the garden - but a trazillion more wait for my hearty yanks...

Bunny No Go is still not great - still paralysed and not really doing his thing ... worried that he may not be emptying his bladder entirely - I hate expressing bladders - always worry I'll rupture them but glad I thought of it - yup I'm now expressing his bladder

Trying to decide if an x-ray will be useful or if wait and see might get results still - thinking it's x-ray time though :(

a hard day's work

Brody had the difficult job of supervising the rest of us ... you can see how he suffered.

We walked the dogs down the road, turned garden beds, continued Project Demolition, cut up a tree that had fallen into one of the good hay fields, loaded crappy hay into the truck for the garden paths, had a lovely picnic listening to the early frogs by the pond, went out for dinner with Mum.

I'm not sure I've ever seen dogs as tired as this gang is tonight. Think we will all sleep very well!

Any great ideas for what to do with the old sections of tin roof we are accumulating? I want to make something - but what on earth could I make with old rusted tin?

a lovely lovely day

hard to believe that this time last March we couldn't see our fences for snow drifts - today we were out ALL DAY.

  • pulling thatched grass
  • poking garlic cloves back under the soil
  • raking up old apples and tossing them into compost
  • clearing the pond path some more

  • sitting by the pond
  • finding old bird nests

  • throwing sticks for Sally and Hank
  • cutting the last of the long logs from firewooding expeditions in the fall
  • filling the indoor wood pile
  • clipping Brody (very badly)

what a lovely way to spend the first day of a week of holidays...

wooding once more ...

some pictures to bring this event of wooding home to you all

the woodstove burning up the wood we work so hard to bring in

the wood pile as it stood when we unloaded the truck this afternoon

snow is on the ground but we got another truck full of wood in .. and the dogs had a blast ...and maybe, just maybe, I'm building a different kind of fitness than running agility

another load of wood

Sunday we went to to woodlot and Big T cut three trees into manageable chunks to fill the truck with wood to be cut further at the schoolhouse.

Three different kinds of trees so we'll have a nice range of fuel for the stove.

The dogs had a blast - well Hank, Sally and Fitz did - Brody just tagged along at my heels most of the day enjoying the moment as is so typical of him.
